Cybils Review 11/15/14

This has to be one of the loveliest books I have ever read.

My daughter and I read over this book a few times and we really loved the story line and sweet illustrations.  Reading the descriptions of the weather and animals really made us feel that we were right there sitting in the tree with her.

One of the first things my daughter asked when we put it down was if she, too, could get a nature notebook and spend time in the woods.  How could I say no to that request?

This lovely book is about a girl that heads off into the woods to watch and wait for Winter.  Each time she goes back she sees something different.  She draws in her notebook and uses her binoculars to keep still, watch and wait.

This was a wonderful read and one that will be joining our library shelves.

Another book we really enjoyed was this one about Bear and Mouse taking a trip to the library.  My little ones could really relate to his frustration over having to be quiet.  I find myself saying shhhhh..... many times to the Littles when we go the library.  But, I understand it is hard not to be excited when surrounded by so many fun things.

After much persuasion Mouse convinces Bear to go the library with him.  Once there he is a bit disagreeable, but soon hears the librarian reading a storybook.  It's not long until she convinces him to join her.  In the end Bear and Mouse go home loaded down with books.  The last illustration is Bear cozied up by the fire with a book about pickles, which he loves very much.

This was also a hit with the children.  I would like to look up the other books in this series.

These two titles were but two from a long list of books nominated for the Cyblis Awards.  I am linking up with Amy from Hope Is The Word.  She is hosting a fun challenge to read as many books on the list and then blog about them.

The Armchair Cyblis is a fun way to get involved with and learn about children's literature.  I didnt get very far, but enjoyed the few titles I read.  The next review post will be December 15, so stop back to recieve more fun books to read and share.

Armchair Cybils

I have always loved reading children's books.  The color, playfulness, whimsy, rhyme... fun!

Just a few days ago I came across the Armchair Cybils at Hope Is The Word.   Honestly it was the eye catching graphic that grabbed my attention.   But,  as I started reading about what it really was, I knew I had to participate.  It would be a wonderful way for me to get to know authors and illustrators, and a fun way to share them with my kids.  One day I would like to put together a study on children's authors and illustrators.   This seems like the perfect first step.

Since this is my first year participating, I don't have all the details down yet.

I will let Amy explain it.

"The Armchair Cybils challenge is a challenge hosted by yours truly at Hope Is the Word.  I thought it would be really fun to play along and read as many of the Cybils nominated titles as I can during the Cybils judging period, which runs from October 15 (or before, but this is the date the nominations are closed) until February 14, and I'd love for you to join me!  For more information about the Cybils, this post explains it better than I ever could."  Amy @ Hope Is The Word

Just read as many books as you can and write a blog post about each title, or you can do one post on all of them.  See, easy and fun!  Don't forget to link up at Hope Is The Word.

Even if you aren't a blogger, join the fun.  You can't go wrong reading great children's books.

Are you with me?
