Annie's Favorite Book Series Right Now

Annie is my seven year old reading machine.  She is really getting comfortable reading longer books to herself, but she still loves to be read to.  With so many people vying for attention, this is a little time that we can carve out to spend time together.  I thought I would share some of her favorite books, at least right now, with you.

One of our favorite series to read right now is the Cobble Street Cousins Series by Cynthia Rylant.  These quick reads are fun and light-hearted.  They are full of sweet descriptions perfect for a little girls imagination.  The series is about three cousins.  Two of the girls are sisters.  They are living with their young, pretty Aunt who owns a Florist Shop just down the street.  They like to stop every afternoon for teatime.

Book five starts like this:

- In a pretty blue house on Cobble Street, three girl cousins lived with their wonderful Aunt Lucy. Lily and Rosie were sisters, Tess was their cousin, and they were all nine years old and best friends.  They had lived in Aunt Lucy's attic for nearly a year, in wonderful spaces all their own: Lily behind long, lacy yellow curtains, with her rabbit collection and her poetry. (Lily wanted to be a writer.) Rosie behind the patchwork quilt, with her rag doll, Angel Girl, and her bear, Henry.  And Tess behind the screen painted with palm trees, with her stack of old records (Tess loved to sing) and her cat, Elliot. -

So you can see for yourself that they are charming books.  There are six books in the whole series.  I really do look forward to reading these books.

Cynthia has also written another series that is equally as charming, only the characters are animals.  The Lighthouse Family is another sweet story.  It begins with the story of a cat named Pandora who tends a lighthouse to provide the saving beam of light to those passing by.  But, the only problem is that she becomes very lonely.  But, not to worry.  Her life soon becomes filled with a wonderful cast of characters that chase away the lighthouse blues!

Annie loves reading Amelia Bedelia.  Which is a good thing, because I honestly can't bear to read them.  I know, I know what kind of mother doesn't like Amelia Bedelia!  Well...ummm....this one.  But, she loves her, so we check out an armload every time at the library.

The American Girl Doll bug has hit our home this year.  Samantha, Kit and Rebecca have joined the girls as best buddies.  Annie and I have read the Kaya series and we are working our way through the Samantha books.  I am amazed at how much Annie absorbs from reading the stories.  Things like handling sticky situations, being a friend and what happens when we don't listen to authority.  Sometimes a story can address situations that otherwise might be hard to explain.

I'm sure this list will expand and change as time goes on.  With so many books she is bound to fall in love with new authors and new stories.

What is your child's favorite books?  What did you like to read when you were young?  Visit my Facebook page or leave a comment here.  I am always looking for new reads to share with my children.

    1. Thanks for stopping by Tiffany :) It is really wonderful when their little light bulbs click on and they are seeing all those markings on the page as words and sentences. Their world opens up.

    1. Yes Susan, good choice. We have listened to a few of the audio books, but my Littles haven't read them yet. My oldest loved them, and my husband recalls loving to read them, too :)

  3. These sound like lovely books, my 10 year old is into anything that talks about missionaries. Reading is such a great thing for them to do and spend time on. Thanks for sharing this with us at Good Morning Mondays. Blessings
