A Daisy Crown Inspired by Bear Wants More

Welcome to Book Review Wednesday.  There are so many wonderful books out there, and picking just one can be tough.  But, I like to pick a book that really strikes our fancy.  For the past few weeks I have been reviewing the book Last Child In The Woods by Richard Louv.  It has been interesting, and an eye opener in many respects.  I have really become more aware of the importance of natural play and letting children discover and explore.  If you would like to take a look for yourself, please take a look here.  

For this week, I wanted to mention our favorite children's book right now: Bear Wants More by Karma Wilson.  They ask for me to read it over and over.

The illustrations are so sweet.  They have a nice softness to them.  My favorite part, well not including the adorable animals, are the daisies that are scattered about the pages.  Daisies, the friendliest flower, as they say.  I even used daisies in my wedding :)

I wanted to come up with a simple craft to go with the book.  My favorite picture in the book is this one with bear looking so content, with a daisy crown around his head. 

As I was studying this picture I had an Aha! moment.  That's what I will make, a daisy crown!  My girls were more than happy to be the recipients.  The crown is so simple to make.  I used a sheet of white felt, a scrap of yellow felt, two green pipe cleaners and my glue gun.  I added a pink ribbon for a little something extra when I was finished.

To get the flower shape I went to Pinterest and typed in flower template.  I was able to get the perfect shape here.  I simply traced it off my computer screen with tracing paper.  I cut out the size I wanted and pinned it to the white felt.

You can either continue to pin your paper template to the felt, or use the felt flower as the template.  I cut out 6 daisy shapes, and then cut out 6 small yellow circles for the centers.  I took two pipe cleaners and twisted the ends together to make the crown shape.  You might want to test it on the head you are making it for.  You might need a bit more or less pipe cleaner.  They cut easily.

I used my hot glue gun to glue on the yellow centers.  Then I glued the flowers onto the crown.  For a little flair I added a pink bow to the back.  Easy-peasy.  It turned out so cute.  Annie ran for her purple cape and there was a lot of twirling going on.

If you have real daisies in your yard, a real daisy crown would be even better!  If you are daring, make one for yourself :)
